The Green Hydrogen System

The system has been developed by Clean Power Hydrogen (CPH2 ) a UK company that has developed and patented a membrane-free
electrolysis system for the production of Green Hydrogen.  This novel and industrialised system uses cryogenic cooling to separate
the hydrogen from the oxygen, and they have chosen AFCryo to supply the cooling power.

The two technologies combine to offer reliable and efficient production over a guaranteed 25-year life, resulting in the lowest net cost of
production in the market.  Both the hydrogen and oxygen are produced at high purity, therefore, offer two potential revenue streams.

Why Hydrogen

Hydrogen is a viable solution to the global decarbonization challenge.  The cost of low-carbon and/or renewable hydrogen production
is predicted to fall drastically by up to 60 percent over the coming decade. This can be attributed to the falling costs of renewable electricity
generation, scaling up of electrolyser manufacturing, and development of lower-cost carbon storage facilities. In some use cases, hydrogen
can already outcompete other low-carbon and conventional alternatives.

Q&A

Brown: created by hydrocarbon-rich feedstock, such as fossil fuel, methane, coal. Creates as much CO2
as burning the fuel in the first place.
Blue: basically brown, but the CO2 created is then captured, and this must then be permanently stored
somehow (a significant disadvantage).
Green: uses 100% renewable energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen output
is also a key benefit of this process, with oxygen production being 8 times the mass of hydrogen produced.
Hydrogen has similar safety requirements to natural gas (methane), and all modern hydrogen fuel cells, storage containers, and vehicles are designed with safety in mind for storage, transportation and refuelling.
You can convert it to electricity using a fuel cell, and then power cars, ships, planes etc.
It can be added to natural gas and burnt in thermal power or district heating plants.
You can use it as a precursor for other energy carriers, from ammonia to synthetic fuels.

Hydrogen itself is 8 times lighter than a battery. So it depends on how you store it. For personal vehicles, hydrogen will have a similar weight, but a faster recharge/refuel time. However, in large commercial vehicles that need a long-range hydrogen becomes a much lighter alternative.
