Nitrogen is a core component in winemaking today, and is often used at a variety of stages of the wine production process such as fermentation, maturation, filling of barrels, and bottling.

More Cost Effective

Traditional supply solutions for nitrogen include cylinders of compressed gases individually or manifold packs of 6 or 15 cylinders, or as liquid nitrogen, stored onsite in tanks (often called cryo tanks or cryogenic vessels).

Based on your usage needs, its typically significantly more cost effective to use liquid nitrogen. Notably,one part of liquid nitrogen warms and expands into 700 parts of gaseous nitrogen at ambient temperature.

The most effective option is producing your own liquid nitrogen onsite. Doing so vastly reduces the cost per cubic metre of gas or per litre of liquid, and you completely remove transportation and handling costs. If you’re already using liquid nitrogen, delivered, there’s increased savings too with a reduction in wastage, often called ‘boil off’, due to being able to have your nitrogen on demand, therefore not sitting in storage, which does have a boil off while stored, and at each point of transfer eg from the supplier to the tank, while stored in the tank, and if decanted. The first two areas of gas loss are removed when you move to an AFCryo onsite cryocooler.

Moving to an onsite ‘gas to liquid’ solution, powered with one of the AFCryo Evercold crycoolers, will enable the winery to reduce cost while maintaining quality.
